That’s the way the cookie ‘Crumbls”
And no one enjoys a warm, gooey, fresh-baked cookie quite like myself. My grandmother taught me to bake her famous chocolate chip cookies, and there’s nothing I love more than the scent of those cookies baking…I’m instantly transported to my childhood standing in my grandmother’s beautiful kitchen. I miss her, but her memory lives on each time I smell the scent of her cookies in my own kitchen. I hope someday my own children and future grandchildren think of me with a smile when they smell them baking in their own homes.
That said, there’s not always time to bake a fresh batch of cookies for a quick dessert or event. Fortunately, there’s always time for the staff at Crumbl Cookie to bake a fresh batch of cookies. I spent the evening previewing the brand-new Crumbl Cookie in Ocala, Florida, which celebrates its grand opening on Friday, May 24, 2024. The pleasure of meeting the owner of the franchise, Tanner – who, along with his wife, owns a total of 10 franchises as far south as Miami – who so graciously walked me through the process of opening a new location, the cookies, and even the Cookie Graveyard (more on that later).
In addition to touring the new location during the Sneak Peek VIP event, I was able to sample this week’s flavors…and learn a bit more about the cookie store my children adore.
The Crumbl Cookie Story
Once upon a time, way back in 2017, two cousins from Utah decided they wanted to make the perfect cookie (they did not have my grandmother’s phone number or their quest would have been short-lived and a lot less expensive). Jason McGowan and Sawyer Hemsley spent thousands of dollars on ingredients only to realize they did not have the perfect cookie recipe. So, they did what everyone does…they asked the people for their opinions (and the difference between Sawyer and Jason and the ‘everyone’ previously mentioned is that this cousin duo actually listened to the people and perfected their craft) until they found the perfect cookie recipe.
Part of the Crumbl appeal is that those who enter the shops get to see the process from start to finish. From mixing the dough to baking the cookies, everything is visible to anyone who enters a Crumbl location. All cookies are served fresh, hot, and delicious. The famous Crumbl milk chocolate chip cookie is on the menu regularly, but this is one store famous for its rotating menu. The cookie flavors offered change weekly, so finding one you love means stocking up now because it won’t be available in a week (don’t worry…most flavors come back around more than a few times throughout the year…except the ones that don’t).
The Crumbl Graveyard
The Crumbl family takes cookies seriously, and they continue to listen to the people. And when the people speak up about not loving a flavor – it happens – those cookies are sent to the Graveyard. While the vast majority of cookies Crumbl makes are perfected and brought back time and time again, some just don’t make the cut.
And let’s be honest…I’ve never heard a single person say, “An Almost Everything Bagel cookie sounds amazing right now,” because it really does not. That’s why it’s in the Crumbl Graveyard alongside other less than decadent flavors such as bubblegum and chilled watermelon.
This Week’s Flavors
This article will be officially outdated and no longer evergreen in a few days simply because this week’s flavors are going to be out the door to make way for new flavors in a few days. Fortunately, there’s still time for you to grab the cookie that was overwhelming the most beloved of the Sneak Peek VIP event: The Peach Cobbler. Hands-down, the most delicious cookie there was.
Also featured this week are the milk chocolate chip, the skillet cookie, the cookies and cream krispy bar, confetti cake, and sugar. Each was delicious in their own right.
