…favorite things this week.
Let me just preface this by saying that I am having the best time writing The Friday Four. It’s become such a great way to focus on the many good things in my life that I might otherwise overlook. It’s been a real dopamine hit. I like it.
This week doesn’t have a theme despite managing to give the series a theme the past few weeks of my attempt to bring back blogging (what? I have a lot to say and just enough narcissism to assume everyone is dying to hear it). This week is just a random compilation of favorite things, and I’m not even mad about it.
One: Watching my kids do their thing
Hands down, no questions, zero competition – my favorite thing to do is watch my kids do what they love. And right now, it’s flag football season. Addy’s last as a high school senior as well as Carter’s as a sixth grader. And they’re rocking the field. I cannot get over how much fun it is to watch them play a sport they love, to cheer them on, and to feel so much pride on the sidelines. I might complain about how late Addy’s games are because, honestly, 7:30 pm is basically midnight for some of us who have things to do like sleep, but in all seriousness…it’s so much fun to watch. I’m so proud of them.
Two: Morning walks with my pup
Pup and I haven’t been on many walks lately because the frigid cold was too much for both of us. She’s been taking afternoon walks with Craig while I’m doing the school pick-up thing. But I have missed our walks. This week, the weather during our regularly scheduled walk time has been glorious, and I’ve missed our time together. It’s been nice being outside in the quiet morning, hanging out with my pup, getting some fresh air, and being outdoors.
Three: The Weather
Okay, okay…I need to qualify something for everyone. I am a huge advocate for fall/winter weather. I’ll take it over summer weather any day. I just feel as though fall/winter weather is just classier weather. Dark, moody, beautiful. It’s the red lipstick of the seasons. Elegance personified.
However, I don’t actually like to be cold, and I’ve learned something about myself in the frigid weather lately. I do prefer the winter months…if we’re talking Florida winter. Not other people’s weather. I like winter when its lows are in the 40s/50s and its highs are in the 60s, but no higher than 75.
A good rule of thumb – if it’s too cold for me to open the doors and windows in my house, I don’t want the weather. Same for the summer weather. If it’s too hot for the doors and windows to remain open all day, fuck it. I don’t want it.
This week has been absolutely gorgeous from start to finish. Cool enough to open the doors and windows all day but warm enough that I’ve already started rocking a good base tan, reading on the pool deck. Yes, queen.
Four: Good Books
I’ve read several good books this week, and I’m here for it. Suspenseful thrillers/mysteries that bring me joy because, apparently, murder and mayhem are my favorite genres. Few things in life bring me as much pleasure as reading, and sharing my book recs and receiving book recs from the people I love are high on my list of favorite things.
Actually…I should do a book blog soon. I think I will. You’re all welcome.
Have a gorgeous weekend!
