…positive thoughts about the time change this weekend.
A Friday Four that’s a real stretch for me because I feel an intense dislike for this time change. I love the evenings dark as early as possible. I love cozy weather, cozy evenings, cozy vibes. The endless daylight is rough for me. I can’t explain it, but it’s probably reverse seasonal depression. I’m fine in the mornings – the morning sunlight is gorgeous. But once noon/1 pm rolls around, the sunlight takes on a harsh appearance, and it lasts for hours and hours, and it makes me sad. For no apparent reason other than the harsh light just doesn’t work. I don’t feel better again until dusk when the sun begins to set and divests the sky of the harsh light.
I also do not enjoy being hot, and this time change signifies the beginning of endless hot days. So, there’s that.
But I’m looking to challenge my way of thinking so that I can be positive about this horrendous time of year. I’m making it my goal this week to find four positives about the upcoming time change that will allow me to look at the clocks slamming forward while I’m not wearing a seatbelt and thrusting me into the harshest seasons of the year.
One: Spring Break is Fast Approaching
Spring forward does mean our spring break trip is fast approaching, and that’s a positive. We let the kids choose where they want to go, and this year they chose a personal favorite of ours for our trip, and we are ready to be there.
Two: Spring Planting Time is Here
Over the past few years, I’ve cultivated a love of gardening, and this time of year is when I get to do that. My best friend and I take a day to go shopping for all of our spring plants. Thrillers, spillers, and fillers. I love choosing the colors that best complement one another and that make my pool deck and front porch so vibrant. It’s such a vibe.
Three: It’s Almost Summer
Oh, what’s that you say, Tiffany? You’re looking forward to summer despite it being your least favorite season?
All right, let us not get ahead of ourselves.
No. I am not looking forward to summer.
I detest summer.
It’s crowded with all those people off work and school. It’s hot. It’s sticky. It’s humid. The days are eight million hours long.
BUT…
But.
But…March to June flies by in such a rush. And then June to August flies by just as quickly, thanks to all of our summer travel, and that means it’s almost September. Which means it’s fall. Which means it’s my four favorite months of the year – they’re almost here!
Four: Pool Days
If we are being honest, we’ve been doing pool days at home for a few weeks already. I do love a pool day, though. I can’t be mad at those. We didn’t design this pool not to enjoy it. There is something special about turning on the pool deck television to our favorite music station, reading a good book while sitting on the sunshelf while Craig and the kids throw the football on the pool deck, eating dinner outside on the lanai…it’s a good time.
And there we have it. Do not get me wrong – I despise this time change. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – I prefer cooler months. They’re classier and more ambient. They’re not for everyone. There’s something about a dimly lit, upscale bar on a cool evening with gorgeous cocktails and quiet conversation that just sits right with me compared to hot, sticky days filled with people buying canned beverages and filling coolers and sweating to death. I am not a summer girly, and that’s the truth.
That said, I will be fine throughout the summer. I will embrace it. I will enjoy my home and my pool, our travels, and my family, and I will make the most of it. I do tan so well, so that’s something I enjoy about this season. And my kids love summer. So I’ll enjoy it with them. But do not for even one second think that I’m not over here counting down the DAYS until fall.
