Friday Four

…favorite things about spring.

I don’t hate spring. I know you’re all thinking it. “Tiffany is always going on and on about how much she despises being hot and how much she loves the ‘ber months and how the rest of the year is useless, pointless, and not for her,” but spring is actually my second favorite season.

Yes, you heard me correctly. I love spring, second only to fall. It’s the vibrancy of spring. The newness of spring. The freshness of spring. And it’s spring planting day, if I’m being honest…my absolute favorite day of the season (and one of my favorite days of the year).

I enjoy spring tremendously, and now that it’s officially spring (did you know today is the first day of spring?), I thought I’d shout out my second favorite season with its own Friday Four.

That said, here are my Friday Four picks for the week…my four favorite things about spring.

Number One: Spring Planting Day

I can hear you all wondering what spring planting day is. Worry not, I have answers. It’s only one of my favorite days of the year. My best friend and I schedule a day at the beginning of spring every year just for ourselves. We head out with a bottle of champagne and wander every nursery in our area to shop for all of our spring plants. The point is to make sure our pool decks, front porches, and lanais are colorful, beautiful, and everything that spring entails.

We shop for thrillers, spillers, and fillers. Oftentimes, we shop for lovely new planters. We fill flatbed shopping carts with dozens of beautiful spring plants and trees, we arrange them, see how we will like them, and we take them home and create beautiful spring planters to go everywhere. It’s so much fun. If someone had mentioned to me when I was younger that one of my favorite days every year would entail shopping for flowers and coming home and playing in the planting soil while making my front porch and pool decks beautiful, I’d laugh. But it’s so true. Best day.

Number Two: The Morning Sunrise

While I am not a fan of the late evening sun, I do love the darker mornings. The way the sun rises over our pool deck and spills into our home through all of our doors and windows is breathtaking. Getting to sit in my family room with a hot cup of coffee and the quiet every morning while I watch the sun rise over our pool is special. Watching as the light spills into our home through the glass is my favorite.

Number Three: Morning Walks

Spring is my favorite season in which to walk my sweet pup. She’s patient enough to allow me to finish my coffee before she sits at my feet and nudges me to get up and get my life together. It’s cool, it’s crisp, the birds are chirping, everything is turning green and blooming. The sun is lovely this time of day…it’s a beautiful walk every morning. I look forward to that time to really take in everything beautiful about our neighborhood. It’s such a gorgeous reminder that we are so truly fortunate.

Number Four: Weekends By the Pool

All right…I don’t love sweating, but I do love pool days at home. The lanai television is playing country music while the kids splash. The way the sun sparkles on the water. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I have never once regretted upgrading all of our pool finishes from the standard finishes to the upgrades we chose that make our pool so pretty. The darker finish inside that gives the water the darker look, the glass tiles that give me such mermaid vibes…I love it, and I never tire of looking at it. It’s gorgeous.

I love lying by the pool with my family while everyone is playing football and splashing, floating, and making fun of one another. Some of my favorite days are lazy days when it’s just us by the pool or when we have friends over, and all the kids are having the best time in the water while we are sitting in our chairs on the sunshelf watching them make memories. So, so good.

So, while summer is an absolute dead last on my list of favorite seasons, spring is close to the top, and for good reason. What do you love most about spring?
