#NSale Early Access Picks (Not Very Fall-Weather Related)

I am so late with this, and I know it. The #Nsale has been going on for basically a week now, and I’m just now getting around to sharing my purchases and a few other favorites. I have to tell you, I didn’t even shop the sale the first few days, and it’s almost open to the public at this point! Early access ends tomorrow, and here I am…today.

In my defense, I was gone for four days, and traveling with a family of six takes a little prep work. We did have the best weekend. I’ll be totally honest with you, though. I hate, hate, hate, detest, hate, really hate a lot the area in Texas where my grandmother lives. I mean, I cringe, die on the inside, and really pout a lot while we’re there. But, she’s my favorite person in the entire world – and that makes the trip so worthwhile.

It’s just so far out of the way. It smells terrible because of all the cows that line the highways for miles and miles. It’s all so orange. There are no trees. There is no water. The sky is not so much blue as it is a hazy color. And the smell….oh my goodness. My skin feels so dusty when I’m there. I guess we can say that I’m just not the country type. The Midwest just is not for me. I love that other people love that simple country living so much, but it’s not for me. I need my palm trees and my salty ocean air. I need the bright blue sky.

I need to smell fresh flowers and see color that isn’t orange. It’s just who I am. Oh, and I need to be close to fresh fruit at all times. You would not believe how many restaurants we went to where they didn’t have fruit or actually asked, “Why?” when we tried to order fresh fruit (and one restaurant didn’t have eggs benedict, nor had they ever heard of it).

We have to stay an hour and a half away from my grandmother’s house to even have a decent hotel, and even that is a stretch. There’s no four or five-star hotels for hundreds of miles, and the absolutely best we could do was a Hilton suites hotel where one person works at the front desk, you have to park your own car, carry your own luggage, and everyone goes downstairs in the morning to eat a free meal that looks like it’s been sitting outside for days and days. Thankfully, we found a Cracker Barrel and a Starbucks (even if neither had fruit or yogurt!). And my grandmother lives in a dry county.

Basically, it’s just not for me.

But, spending time with her is everything to me. We got to spend our Saturday night alone with her, my husband and I. My mom and dad were also in Texas visiting with my niece and nephew with them, so they kept our kids for us so we could spend the evening with my grandmother. She’s almost 100, and she’s the sharpest, most intelligent, most hilarious woman. Her mind is sharper than mine will ever be, and she’s lived a century. We had the most incredible evening with her – and our kids love the farm. The animals, the barn, all of it. I don’t even know who they are.

The flight isn’t bad, but the drive to her house is hours and hours, and that’s a long situation. Overall, everyone was super well-behaved considering we spent four days off schedule and without the creature comforts we are accustomed to. It was so hard to say goodbye…my heart hurts.

So, that was our weekend. We are glad to be home, and now I have to get back to work writing all the things. And bringing you my Nordstrom sale picks. To be honest, some of these things are just on sale. They’re not even part of the sale, but does that matter?

Also, you won’t find a lot of fall stuff on my list. Honestly, I live in Florida. I don’t get a fall season, so I don’t buy much in terms of fall clothes. I’ll still be swimsuit shopping for months, so you’re getting what I love that works for my life.

Tory Burch slides, Tory Burch sandals, Nikes, Hunter Boots, Hunter Boots

I have a particular love for these rubber TB sandals. I love them for the beach, the pool, and to wear in the shower when we travel ( I can’t shower barefoot). You cannot ruin them! Additionally, I love these simple Nikes for the gym. They’re streamlined and clean. And while we might not have a lot of fall weather here in Florida, rain is always a problem. And I love my Hunters. Remember to size down a full size for the best fit.

Midi dress, shirt dress, pompom romper, casual dress, white romper

I love this sweet midi. It’ll pair well with a fun blazer and sky-high heels for a slightly dressier look, or with flats for a fun casual look. I also have this split-neck shirt dress, and it’s just a little see-through when it’s daytime. Wear it at night or invest in a slip! This romper is too much fun, and this knotted dress is so flattering on all body types. My favorite, though, is this all-white romper I’ll never be able to wear because, well, all white.

7 For All Mankind One, Two, Three

You know I’m a diehard 7fam jeans lover. I won’t wear much else. And these third pair are my absolute favorite ever – I picked up two more pair to go with the three or four I already have. I love them that much. Actually, they might be all  you see me in ever again. And at this price, I might order a few more!

Black tee, stripe tee, sweatshirt

This black tee is one of my favorite purchases ever, and it’s so cheap! I also love this casual stripe tee to pair with a blazer and heels during the fall (if we get one) and this sweatshirt is perfect for running errands, cool mornings with my coffee on the deck, and evenings when there might be an actual chill in the air.

It’s All in the Details: One Dress You Can Wear Several Ways

dress 1

It’s all in the details.

I’ve said it before – I love classic pieces. 85% of my closet is staples and classic pieces that never go out of style, and about a quarter of those have a little bit of a twist because I love details. A classic wrap dress with fun pockets and a military-style neckline. Wide-leg trousers with fun back pocket details. A classic top with unexpected sleeves.

I do, from time to time, fall for trends. Right now I’m loving the bell sleeves – and I’m loving classic pieces with bell sleeves. I’m also loving the tee shirt dress. It’s simple, it’s classic, and you can’t go wrong.

I’m also loving neutrals right now, and when I found this gray Topshop dress at Nordstrom recently, I didn’t hesitate to bring it home. It’s got a classic neckline and fun sleeves perfect for fall in Florida (do you hear me laughing at that oxymoron?). What makes it extra fun, though, is the side-tie detail. It’s a little classic and a little badass.

{Booties: Michael Kors old | Bracelet: Tiffany & Co. | Sunglasses: Ray Ban}

And it’s perfect when I indulge a little too much and want to hide it!

I don’t hesitate to buy something when I know I can wear it a half-dozen ways depending on my mood.

With booties on a cool fall day.

With wedges when the weather starts to warm up

With Millers in the summer.

With rainboots in the spring.

With ballet flats through the airport or to take my kids to school.

One dress – endless wears. And for only $45. Is it possible to find a better buy? (The correct answer is no).

What have you found recently you know you can wear a million ways and never on repeat?

Last Day of the #Nsale & A Few Favorites You Don’t Want to Miss

{Tunic: Lush here | Leggings: BP here | Shoes: Christian Louboutin So Kate here | Bag: Prada here | Earrings: Sugarfix by Bauble Bar here | Glasses: Yves Saint Laurent (Old) similar here}

Happy Sunday, darlings!

I hope everyone is having a gorgeous weekend filled with whatever it is that makes your heart happy. We’ve had a lovely weekend thus far. Friday night was date night with another great couple, yesterday we took our big girls on our annual back-to-school wardrobe shopping trip (do not get me started on our 6-year-old’s choices….she makes me cry silent tears of horror and resignation), and today is bedroom switch day.

Our big girls share what we call the private ‘wing’ in our house. They have a cool pocket door that separates their section of the house from the rest of the first floor so their bedrooms and their bathroom are kind of private. Anyway, they want to switch bedrooms this weekend, so it’s paint (because they both hate the color of the other’s room) and new décor and all that fun stuff…all with a 9-year-old with an upset stomach. That’s not awesome, but they’re still excited about their room switch.

But before we get started on that, I wanted to share with you a gentle reminder it’s the last day of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale if you haven’t done your shopping just yet. I have to be honest when I tell you that most everything I’ve purchased in the past few weeks from Nordstrom wasn’t actually included in the sale….oops.

Anyway, I this amazing Lush Tunic is a MAJOR staple in my closet. I have it in 8 (maybe nine?!) colors. And I’ll share a secret – it’s always on “Sale” for $27. I bought this black one in 2015 just before NYFW and every time a new color is introduced, I order it….for $27.

These faux leather leggings are everything.

So hurry up and shop the last day of the sale. Or don’t. Either way, you’ll still find these great fall pieces tomorrow.

Friday Favorites: 5 Things in My Cart at the Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale

It’s (one of) my favorite times of the year! No, not summer vacation. Sure, I’m off enjoying a very long weekend in the sun, having fun, not connecting to my inbox or doing anything even remotely related to work for another five days…but I’m not talking about summer.

My kids are out of school. I work from home. Summer is not my most favorite time of the year.

But the Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale is most definitely one of my favorite times of the year!

Nordstrom and I have a lovely agreement. They keep offering free shipping (and it’s so fast!) and I’ll keep spending money on their gorgeous products. And since today is another of my favorite days – Friday Favorites – I thought I might share with you a few of my favorite new purchases from the Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale.

  1. Lush Cross Front Maxi Dress

I have to share a secret; I’m not a very trendy person. I prefer my style to remain classic and timeless, but when I do fall in love with a trend, it’s Lush I look to. It’s inexpensive, the quality is really good for the price, and they always have fun colors. This dress falls into the “too lazy to choose more than one piece of clothing” category this summer. The cross detail on the front is just an added bonus. You can’t go wrong with a basic maxi – especially in this fun color!

  1. One-Shoulder Top

Again, I’m not one for trendy looks, but I feel good about this one-shoulder top. It’s the off-the-shoulder and cold-shoulder looks that I don’t find flattering on my frame. This shirt, though. The blue and white. The one shoulder. It’s perfect for summer, and I can already see myself wearing it with a pair of white skinny jeans and my favorite wedges on a casual date night with my favorite guy.

  1. Treasure & Bond Wide Sleeve Sweatshirt

Basic black is basically my best friend – that’s a lot of alliteration for the weekend. It’s my jam, but can how it not be? Basic black is always so chic and elegant, and it’s the fun sleeves on this one that do it for me. Basic, but with a twist.

  1. 7 For All Mankind Slim Illusion Luxe Mid-Rise Skinny Jeans in Rich Blue

Two things you should know about me. The first is I do not wear jeans unless they are a dark wash. The second is that 7FAM is my favorite jean-maker, and with the exception of some Rag & Bone and a few Citizens of Humanity jeans, they’re the only brand I’ll buy. These beauties are simple, chic, and perfect. Dress them up, dress them down, but you’ll always look sophisticated in them. Oh – and 7FAM stretches super easily, so always order a size down!

  1. Lush Perfect Roll Tab Sleeve Tunic

You want to size down here. I won’t even lie – I have this shirt in probably 15 colors. Lush changes out the colors with the season and I buy it in every color when a new one is introduced. It’s flattering, it’s fun, and it’s perfect with skinny jeans, wide-leg jeans, leggings, and everything in between. I love it, because I always feel good in it. You’ll want it in every color, too, since it never fades, always looks brand-new, and it always elicits at least a half-dozen compliments!

I hope you all have the most fab weekend imaginable. I know I am – since I’ve already bid adieu to real life and moved on to vacay-mode. Happy Friday, Happy Memorial Day, and Cheers to the Freakin’ Weekend!
