Life Lately & An Instagram Roundup

Happy Tuesday, loves!

What about this week is so magical?! I love Thanksgiving. I love opening my home to the people we love, hosting a beautiful dinner, spending the day in the kitchen with my husband. I love so much about it. I’m not even that bothered by the kids being home this week because the weather is so beautiful that they just want to be outdoors, and we are able to work with the doors and windows open. It’s just…pretty. I love it.

Life has just been good lately. I know I say that a lot, and I know my enthusiasm for life probably invites a few eye rolls here and there, but I don’t care. Anyone who has any interaction with me on a daily basis knows there are a few things that Make. Me. Crazy. (safety patrol parents. my sweet little nephew. Science fair projects. Just to name a few). But really, I have no complaints and most of those I do have are pretty simple, so that’s something to be happy about.

This weekend was a good one. It was one of those weekends we didn’t have anything planned – and we needed that. We’ve not been home the past month or so on the weekends, and we were just tired. Every night last week was late…we were just tired.

Thursday night last week was a late one. I went with some of my girlfriends to the United Way’s Little Black Dress fundraiser at a local winery, followed by dinner with some of my girlfriends I ran into at the event. It was fun, but it was also 11 pm before I got home! Friday night was family date night, but the kids asked if we could just stay home for once. We were all about that, so we just picked up Olive Garden to go and relaxed at home for the evening.

We also decided to host an impromptu Gator Game Day party at our house. It was very casual with a sub bar and quick snacks, and somehow our luncheon/game day party turned into an all-day event, but it was easily one of the most fun days ever. Like, the kind of fun that leaves everyone saying over and over “This was the best day!” It really was, and I loved every second of it. Sunday ended with another impromptu plan when we went to a local brewery to judge our friend’s entry and turned it into a date night. He’s opening a brewery of his own in a few months, and we loved supporting him with our best friends…and a great dinner! I don’t care for dark beer at all, but he makes the least disgusting dark beer (but if you do love a dark beer, you’d have been in heaven).

Now it’s Monday. The kids are home, the day is beautiful. I’m cramming a full week worth of work into today, tomorrow, and a few hours Wednesday morning, and I’m kind of banging it out like a Rockstar. And that was with a two-mile run this morning, so I’m feeling pretty good. Which brings me to the point of today’s post – an Insta-Roundup.

Happy Friday, loves!

I hope y’all are as excited about this weekend as I. Today is our daughter’s cheer camp performance to round out the week. It’s Donuts with Dad day at the twins’ school, and that means lots of family time and enjoyment…and a very laid-back Friday night. The rest of the weekend is booked solid with a lot of friends, family, and fun for Father’s Day, and this week was filled with sleepovers at our house. Actually, the last two weeks have been nothing but endless sleepovers at our house, and our kids love that!

My #momlife doesn’t give me as much time as I’d like to dress up and be fancy. Full disclosure – I do get dressed every single day, but I strip down and put my robe back on when I get home from drop off every morning. I’m only dressed to leave the house. I love to dress up, but I also have to plan a lot of my clothes around what we’re doing with the kids and how easy it is for me to carry them and bend down to help them. I always dress up for church. Mostly because I feel very disrespectful walking into church with anything less than my #SundayBest. However, I also dress for church because I love to dress up. Otherwise, it’s date nights and travel that allows me to really dress up!

There’s just something about putting on something feminine and beautiful that makes me feel like a million bucks. So, here are some of my favorite silhouettes when I want to feel very ladylike and elegant. It’s helpful to know how certain shapes lend to a specific look when you’re going for ladylike and elegant.

{Michael Kors wedges, RayBan aviators}

The Classic Wrap Dress

You can’t go wrong with a classic wrap. I recently picked up this Lilly Pulitzer Marvista to wear to dinner on my wedding anniversary, and I love it. It’s such a fun twist on a classic wrap with a Lilly Print. It’s so much fun when I want to feel feminine and chic, but also have a little more fun with color and pattern. I also love this fun wrap.

{Kate Spade clutch, SugarFix by Baublebar earrings, YSL sunglasses, Christian Louboutin bow pumps}

The Classic LBD

This Diane von Furstenberg is one of my favorite LBDs, but it’s also a wrap dress. That means it wins everything in my book. You cannot go wrong with an LBD, but you have to choose one that fits your shape. It’s also wise to choose a classic cut rather than one that’s trendier. I also love this one if you want to add a little flair to an otherwise classic LBD.

The Classic Sheath

I love a sheath, and I think I have one version or another in almost every color imaginable. It’s simple and elegant, and its timelessness makes it everything. This one is my current favorite with its simple cut. And I can’t beat the fact that I picked it up at TJ Maxx for like $40. I also love this one and this one.

3 Classic Ways to Style a Blazer for Instant Chic

Is anyone else keeping an eye on the tropics like it’s their job? As a lifelong Floridian, I’ve been so exceptionally blessed to have never been through a major storm. The worst was back in 2004 when we had three or four back-to-back hurricanes and tropical storms come our way. It pushed back the permit-pulling process of our new construction at the time. We were 20 and 21, building our first house, and very annoyed our permits kept being pushed. Of course, it’s hard to be annoyed when the reason was to give current homeowners a chance to rebuild and repair after such significant storm damage.

Right now, I’m concerned because I’ll be in NYC this weekend for NYFW. If this storm hits us here, we aren’t going. If it skirts the coast and there’s any chance it might affect NYC, we aren’t going. We have four small kids – and they are our priority. So….we shall see how this plays out and affects our flights, our trip, and our weekend. God’s plan is always greater than my own, so there’s no sense in stressing over things right now.

There’s also no sense in not sharing one of my favorite closet stapes – the blazer. I love it. I love everything about it. I love a black blazer, and I love a white blazer. I’m on the hunt for a blue one right now, but I can’t seem to fall in love with any I’ve seen thus far.

So as you’re enjoying the final day of your long weekend – as am I – it’s time to think about how you can change the entire look of any ensemble with a chic blazer. I’m sharing three of my favorite ways to make my favorite go-to outfits a little chicer with a blazer below. It just gives it that little extra, don’t you think?

Over A Casual Dress

I love a classic black blazer over a casual dress. This is such a fun dress because it’s got small straps, and it can be worn as a casual dress with flip flops for a fun day at Disney, to a pool party, or to run errands. Add some fun heels (I love these with the bow), a belt, and a blazer, and you’re instantly polished and chic.

With White

A white blazer is so effortless, and who cares if it’s a fashion faux pas to wear white after Labor Day? I’m a rule breaker…I love the dark denim with the all white. It’s fun, and you can wear it as casual or as dressed up as you prefer. It screams casual Friday with a twist of chic.

With A Basic Tee

If I had my way, I’d dress up every single day. I have four kids and 100 million things to do, so sometimes it’s more like jeans and a tee. To keep it from being too basic, however, I love a fun tee with a fun saying (and I looooove Harry Potter so this shirt is everything) and a blazer. It always feel so casual cool in my eyes.

How do you love to dress up your basics?

*And I hope that everyone is keeping an eye on Hurricane Irma at this point – preparing for the worst while praying for the best. Please listen to your local meteorologist and prepare for this storm if there is even a minor chance it might affect you and your family. This is not a storm to take lightly, nor is it wise to prepare at the last moment*
